21 Ways to Eat Beans for Breakfast

Start your day right with beans for breakfast! Not only are they hearty and full of fiber, but they’re also perfect for the bean protocol.

Not all the recipes listed are bean protocol ready, but below each recipe, I’ll share my adaptations for vegans, vegetarians, and carnivores. But I promise to give you ideas for black beans, white beans, baked beans, and of course Mexican inspired dishes!

I know that beans aren’t the first thing you think of you say breakfast, but they should be!

    Adaptations

Super eager to see all the recipes, ey? Read this before you get started!

Many of these recipes have dairy. Karen R. Hurd doesn’t recommend dairy on the bean protocol because it causes inflammation. And most dairy alternative products use coconut oil or soy, which can also cause inflammation. Ack!

    What do you do?

If you’re still suffering with your hormonal imbalance issues, refrain from using any dairy or cheese substitutes.

If you’re on the mend and are feeling tons better, I highly recommend finding out what your tolerance levels are to these foods.

You may be able to eat small amounts of dairy or dairy-free alternative products without the side effects. I know I can!

You may be able to eat cheese without lactose or maybe high quality mozzarella - we’re all different, honor your body the way that feels nourishing for you.

    Tips

What about oils and unsaturated fats? Aren’t we supposed to separate them?

While you’re balancing out hormones from overproducing too many hormones, the goal is to eat more beans than unsaturated fats in any meal. If you’ve already healed,  there are no limits.

While I was healing, I got to the point where I couldn't be bothered with the unsaturated fat to bean ratio, so I stopped thinking about it and I still healed!

    Vegans

    • Replace eggs or any meats with whole grains like brown rice.

      • Always have your favorite whole grains cooked and ready to use!

      • One egg is roughly 1.8 ounces - substitute with 1.8 ounces of grains.

    • Replace dairy with dairy free alternatives - i love Miyokos cheeses. As I mentioned above, these don’t interfere with my health at all.

    Carnivores

    • If a meal is vegan, add your favorite lean meat like eggs, ground turkey, or chicken sausages (just remove the skin)

    For Weight Loss

Instead of bread you can always use thinly sliced baked sweet potatoes! It’s super yummy and very nutritious! Here are more details about losing weight on the Bean Protocol.
